DREDGE save editor

Article
From Chaipat's knowledge graph

DREDGE save editor is a local save editor for the PC version of the fishing horror game DREDGE. Beyond changing numbers, it shows the game's real inventory grids. Items can be moved, rotated and spawned on them the way the game lays them out.

Features

  • Three workspaces: Main; Numbers and Flags; and Inventory and Spawner.
  • Quick edits for money, world time, sanity and hull tier, plus every other variable in the save.
  • Real inventories: the exact contents of the cargo hold, storage, overflow and cabin, drawn with the game's own hull layouts and item shapes, including irregular L and V shapes.
  • Moving items: items can be moved and rotated 90 degrees. The editor checks blocked cells, slot types, edges and collisions.
  • Spawning items from a searchable catalogue of 386 items extracted from the player's own installation. No game art is stored in the repository.
  • Finding saves automatically on macOS, Windows and Linux.

Safety

The editor listens only on the local machine and backs up the save before every write. It also checks the edited save before replacing the original.

How it's built

DREDGE saves use .NET's BinaryFormatter, which is awkward to read outside .NET. The editor therefore has a small C# bridge, built with the .NET SDK, that reads and writes saves. A JavaScript interface runs in the browser on top of it, and a Python step extracts item art from the player's installed game.
